BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – On Thursday night the Baker men’s basketball team took on the Crusaders of Evangel who entered the game on a three-game winning streak.
Evangel opened up the game with an early lead as they led, 26-19, with 11:45 to go in the first half. Baker then turned momentum and went on an 8-2 run to take the lead. The Wildcats and Crusaders would exchange buckets for the rest of the half until Charles Fisher beat the buzzer putting the ‘Cats up, 44-40.
Baker was able to extended their lead to seven points before Evangel was able to shoot themselves back into the game. Going 13-25 from behind the arch and going 28-33 from the free throw line, the Crusaders regained the with 7:30 remaining in regulation. Baker battled to keep the game close but Evangel was able to fend off the Wildcats and earn the victory, 93-84.
Despite the loss, the Wildcat offense was very efficient shooting 60.3% from the field and 50% from the three-point line. Kobe Buffalomeat lead the Wildcats offense with 16 points going 6-7 from the field. Brandon Clifford and Brett Elifritz followed as they each finished with 14 points. Charles Fisher filled the stat sheet as he finished with 13 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assist and 2 steals in the Wildcat loss.
Baker now holds an overall record of 10-11 and 8-8 in Heart of America play. The team will be back in action Saturday, February 1st in Des Monies, IA as the Wildcats take on Grand View at 4:00 p.m.

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker cheer and dance teams begin a very busy weekend on Friday as they compete in three competitions in three days.
“I’m really looking forward to all of the competitions this weekend,” director of cheer and dance Lynsey Payne said. “We will see lots of great teams and are excited about competing here at home on Saturday. It’s going to be a packed weekend, but I think both teams will rise to the challenge.”
The Wildcats will travel to Olathe, Kan., on Friday where they will compete in the MNU Invitational. The Baker dance team competed in two separate duals last weekend, but Friday will mark the Baker cheer team’s first competition under head coach Savannah Clouse. The dance team will compete at 7 p.m., with the cheer team performing at 8 p.m.
Following their performances on Friday, the teams will return to Baldwin to compete in the 2020 Baker Classic on Saturday. With eight cheer teams and 11 dance teams, the Baker Classic has become one of the top events to attend for teams across the United States.
The Baker cheer team will compete at 11:30 a.m., with the dance team not performing until 1 p.m., inside the Collins Center on the campus of Baker University.
Finishing off the weekend, both teams will go back on the road on Sunday and travel to Atchison, Kan., where they will compete in the Benedictine Challenge. Once again, the cheer team will perform first at approximately 12:18 p.m., with the dance team performing at approximately 1:06 p.m.
