Wildcats Take First Place at Midwest Regional Qualifier to Earn Automatic Bid to the NAIA National Championships

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Despite heading into finals in second place, the Baker dance team put on a stellar performance in their final performance on Friday to take first place at the 2020 Midwest Regional Qualifier.
“I am so proud of this team,” head coach Lynsey Payne said. “They continue to rise to every challenge and push themselve every time out. They really brought it for finals and left everything on the floor. To come from behind to win by .5 against a high caliber team makes me so proud. We are really looking forward to continuing to push ourselves at Nationals.”
In the prelims, the Wildcats posted a score of 83.97, but sat in second place heading into the final round as Grand View posted a total score of 85.37 in the first round.
After taking a short break and correct small errors, the Baker dance team performed for the final time of the day. The Wildcats posted a score of 86.7 in the finals to bring their overall total to 86.017 to take home first place.
After the finals were over, the Wildcats also had nine dancers tryout to be named NAIA All-Americans.Those include, Stephen Long, Alyssa Waller, Kinleigh Brecheisen, Cheleia Marshall, Gracie Chambers, Jaila Randle, Keirstyn Reynolds, Linnea Carlson and MaryJoan Monteclaro. Next week, these nine student-athletes will find out if they were named 2020 NAIA All-Americans.
With the first place win, the Wildcats earn an automatic bid to the 2020 NAIA National Championships held on March 13-14 in Davenport, Iowa.
