[Softball] Riley Swickard Awarded CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Last week, Baker University softball student-athlete Riley Swickard was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team for her accomplishments on and off the field of play.

“Riley is an outstanding student-athlete and I think this award shows that many others see that as well,” head coach Dana Goss said. “If you are lucky enough to know her, you know she is just a special person, but for those who only have numbers to look at, you can see that she is a great student with a strong GPA and her numbers on the field are equally impressive. She does it all. She gets on base, hits with power, steals bases and defensively, I haven’t seen a better center fielder at this level. I’m happ that she is being honored with this award because she is truly a gifted student-athlete that has worked so hard to achieve this.”

The 2020 Academic All-District Softball Team selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Honorees selected to the Academic All-District team will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot and winners will be announced from June 8-11.

Swickard is a senior for the Wildcats from Bucyrus, Kan., and has been a part of the Baker softball team for four seasons. In a season cut short, Swickard ranked 11th in the country in stolen bases per game and 26th in the country in stolen bases.

In four seasons, she holds a batting average of .310, hitting 31 doubles, six triples and 20 home runs. Swickard’s 20 career home runs is enough to hold the Baker University record for home runs in a career. She also holds the record for home runs in a season when she hit 10 home runs in 2019.

Swickard was a key contributor to the Wildcats winning both the Heart of America Regular Season Championship and the Tournament Championship in 2019 for the first time in team history.
